
Dr. Morgenstern was the 2015 recipient of the American Heart Association’s William Feinberg Award for Clinical Stroke, the highest award given by the American Heart Association (AHA) for an active clinician and clinical researcher in the world. Dr. Morgenstern is an internationally recognized expert in stroke management and prevention. He has been Principal Investigator or co-investigator of numerous National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded stroke studies including clinical and intervention trials and epidemiological and outcomes studies. In particular, Dr. Morgenstern has served as Principal Investigator of the Brain Attack Surveillance in Corpus Christi (BASIC) project (NS R0138916), an NIH-funded population-based project in Nueces County, Texas comparing stroke in Mexican Americans and non-Hispanic whites for over 20 years. Dr. Morgenstern also has 11 years of Institutional Review Board (IRB) service experience.
