Andrzej Galecki, MD, PhD, Biostatistician

Dr. Galecki is Co-Director of the Design, Data and Biostatistics Core in the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center at U-M. In 2015, Dr. Galecki was selected as a Fellow of the American Statistical Association for his outstanding contributions to the statistical profession. Dr. Galecki’s strong background and education in applied mathematics and medicine has given him an opportunity to independently pursue advanced methodological problems in statistics while contributing to interdisciplinary, applied research in medical and biological sciences. His research focuses on the development and application of modern statistical methods to research studies, including clinical trials and epidemiological and genetic studies. He has developed and applied statistical methods for analyzing correlated and over-dispersed data and has nationally recognized expertise in linear mixed-effects models. His interdisciplinary collaborative research has involved a wide range of critical methodological and application contributions at several stages of research in geriatrics and gerontology. For several years he has played a leading role in the quantitative aspects of the research on a number of large, long-term National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded projects. Dr. Galecki has served as the biostatistician on multiple projects related to this program including the NIH-funded The Predictors and Long-Term Trajectory of Poststroke Cognitive Decline study, BP COG study, and STROKE COG study where he supervised the application of linear mixed-effects models. He also is the biostatistician for the NIH-funded MCI DeM study.
